Topic for 9/26 to 10/2

Those were some adorable doggies last week, everyone!  Let's return to humans this week, shall we?  How about...

BIKER GANGS!

Well, I suppose it needn't be a human biker gang.  Who am I to limit your creativity?

Also, we'd love to hear more ideas for other topics!  Please post them in the comments section -- you don't even need to be an Anthdrawlogist to throw down a challenge.  Bring it, I say!

Topic for 9/19 to 9/25

Happy Monday!  Did everyone get some good life drawing practice last week?  Congrats to all who stepped up to the challenge -- I know it's not easy!

Without further ado, this week's topic is...

DOGGIES!

From puppies and poodles to wolves and hounds, our canine friends provide a huge variety of inspiration to build on.  My tail's wagging just thinking about it!

As always, have fun everyone!

Adam Heine - Life Sketches/Hope

For me, my life sketches (which are all of my kids, basically) are the same thing as hope. They are why we do what we do.

I forgot to get my brain out of "get it right" mode, so I didn't really do gesture drawings like I should've. But I like what I did (except for Nathan's face; don't know what happened there).

Also I need a new scanner. Those lines bug me every time. Anyway, here are a couple of bonus sketches I drew back when we first moved here (Thailand) and worked at an orphanage.

For the record, I like this topic. I'd be willing to do it repeatedly :-)

life drawing A.D.D.

Interesting exercise in keeping up with kids, handing out snacks, talking with friends, handing out snacks, attempting to draw, handing out snacks, and trying to draw again, children who didn't stay in a general area for more than two minutes, and never in a position for more than half a minute.  Charles' post about gesture drawings < 1 minute is absolutely correct.  It was fun, exhausting but fun.

Charles Eubanks - Life Drawings

A group of us SCBWI folk met at the park today with our kids and our sketchbooks, and somewhat-structured chaos ensued.  Here's a raw page straight from my sketchbook.  I was using my Pentel Pocket Brush Pen, and attempting to bang out somewhat coherent gesture drawings in ~1 minute bursts.  (Kids don't hold still for long, y'know!)  The results are admittedly not much to look at, but it was fantastic practice.

Peter Hong - Hope

Hope is one of my favorite words, so I included an old one I did in 2008. It's called "Street Kid." Hope that's okay. :P

Topic for 9/12 to 9/18

Guys, I want to do an entire book of typo art now! Well, I know that a few Anthdrawlogians are doing a "Sketch Crawl" this weekend and sketching their kids at a park! Sounds like a lot of fun, so this week we're hoping you'll be able to post some of your drawings here at Anthdrawlogy. Or if you' like to try something a little more abstract, we're going with one of Helen's suggestions from a bit ago: Hope! So...

LIFE DRAWINGS
and/or
HOPE!

Good luck! And, as always, if you have any suggestions for future topics, please leave them in the comments below.

I make this particular typo more than I actually write the correct word. And I giggle every time.

Charles Eubanks - Typos

This one is dedicated to my cousin Amanda, who got married yesterday!

And a big thank-you to my lovely wife for coming up with the concept.

Topic for 9/5 to 9/11

Hey guys, we have a special challenge this week!  The topic is inspired by a recent tweet by Marie, in which she referred to her "golf plated" jetski.  Yes, of course she meant "gold plated," and therein lies the challenge!  The topic is:

TYPOS!

BUT, for extra credit, don't explain what the typo is; the rest of us will post our guesses in the comments!

Miss Lollys N. Lace:
What beauty! What grace!
A few loose screws
But not a hair out of place!

(P.S. I'm 2 weeks away from getting my scanner back. Yay! No more photos!)

Adam Heine - Villains

I decided to get back to my manga roots.* This is Dr. Horrible and his immensely sympathetic secret identity, Billy.

If you don't know Dr. Horrible, you must see it right now. BEST Joss Whedon supervillain musical starring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion EVER!

* By "roots," of course, I mean "that time about a year ago when I discovered Mark Crilley."

Villains - Jono Lucerne

Okay, so I may have went a little overboard with the alien face. Hope people don't find it too scary :-S
