Peter Hong - Teeth

I went the reference route as well and did a modern version of the Corinthian, a character from Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" comic book series. More info on him here.

Wha- bu- HE'S GOT TEETH FOR EYES!

Cool drawing. I'm always hesitant to copy a reference picture, but as soon as I do it, I remember that there's about a billion ways to interpret said reference, especially if you're drawing in a different medium.

AH! That's absolutely creeptastic! I with Adam, I think reference pictures are a great way to practice interpretation...as well as develop some different and new techniques. I love the hair, by the way! This isn't digital, right? Pencil? I'm so bad at seeing these things. :)

yeah, it's not my 1st choice to copy something, so i usually try to tweak it a bit to make it somewhat my own. it is good for learning, though (so is rotoscoping). also, i'll usually post my reference, to give credit where credit's due. i had something more ambitious in mind originally, but it didn't pan out. marie, i did this in mechanical pencil, but threw the "poster edges" filter on there, which gives it some added texture and exaggerated edges.
