Adam Heine - Holidays

I couldn't think of anything Christmasy. This holiday is Loy Kratong, in which Thais release thousands of floating lanterns into the sky and little boats made of banana leaves into the river.

It's also Winter's Night (a holiday I made up for Air Pirates) and apparently Rapunzel's birthday (though I just saw the movie yesterday; I swear I thought of this picture before I saw it!).

This is also the first time I've actually painted (as opposed to the watercolor pencils I keep using) since I used to play Warhammer.

ooh, this is really nice, adam! you gonna paint more often? i don't care much for the noise of that loy kratong brings, but i love the beautiful lights!

Nice! When I saw that scene in Rapunzel, I had two thoughts: 1. How beautiful! 2. Isn't that a fire hazard?!?

Thanks, guys! Peter: I've always loved the lights (which is probably why I (and Disney) stole the idea for our stories ;-).

Charles: It's surprisingly safe. If/when the lanterns catch fire, they burn pretty quickly (they're made of something like tissue paper). Environmentally, though, it's terrible. The next morning there are blackened lanterns EVERYWHERE.

But man, it's pretty.

I love this! That would be awesome to see in person. Something for the bucket list, I guess :D.

This is so beautiful! What's your medium here? And what a cool holiday...adding it to my bucket (phuket?) list, too!

It's mostly watercolor, but the lanterns are gouache (or however it is you spell that).
