I figured out the trick to watercolors: paint lots of layers. It may not end up like you wanted, but at least you'll look like you know what you're doing :-)
wow, adam! this looks great! landscapes/backgrounds are hard for me, and usually end up pretty lame, but yours look really nice! oh, and i think that pit gave me nightmares as a kid.

Ah yes, layers! I have lots of those in my Photoshop files. :) You make me want to do more watercolor.
