Charles Eubanks - Santa

Santa is making great strides toward a healthier lifestyle.

In other news... for once, I actually posted my drawing on time this week!  Woo-hoo!

Emily Eubanks - Santa

Emily says: "I did this in class, and I'm really proud of it!"

Nathan Heine - Santa

6-year-old Nathan drew this. He says that's Santa, and a walking snowman on the right, and the balloons have bombs in them, and when the guy floating with the balloons gets hit the bombs are going to burn his hat.

Adam Heine - Santa

Since we're making stuff up for our kids anyway...

Although my favorite Santa is still the Tolkien version.

Sorry I skipped a few weeks there. I got some freelance work (for money!). I don't know how much drawing I'll be able to fit in for a while, but I'm still here.

Reindeer Derby

Announcer, "...and Comet comes up from behind like magic challenging the lead of Wister's Mother.....it's as if he's flying down the track!"

Topic for 12/17 to 12/23

Awesome reindeer, everyone!  I can almost hear them trotting on my roof now!

Sticking with the holiday theme, this week's topic is...

SANTA!!!

Ho-ho-ho!  Have you been naughty or nice this year?

Charles Eubanks - Reindeer

Another process experiment this week.  I kept the line work loose and rough, and did all the color pretty much on one layer.  (I don't know about you guys, but I usually have LOTS of layers.)

Emily Eubanks - Reindeer

Attention, kids on the NICE list: They're coming your way!  Are YOU ready?

Marie Criddle - Reindeer

So in what little I know of Norse mythology, the Father-God Odin has this amazing eight legged steed named Sleipnir (who, in one incarnation, had four heads but, come on. That's just nutty.) I also remember reading that Odin and Sleipnir were among many of the inspirations that eventually made up the current image of Santa Claus and his reindeer (the eight legs being translated, I suppose, into eight separate reindeer?) A stretch, maybe. :)

Anyways, let's all join in singing that classic Christmas song: "Sleipnir, the eight legged reindeer (reindeer), had a very awesome name (can't pronounce it!)..."

Topic for 12/12 to 12/18

Nice round of Frosties, guys! And bonus points to Andy for being able to bring a snowman to fruition in all four seasons. Well done! Ready for next week's infusion of holiday goodness?

REINDEER!

I know, we're really testing the warm climate dwellers here in regards to childhood/real life inspiration. But isn't that what google images is for? Good luck with the ungulates!

Also, we'd like to extend a warm welcome to Micah Wood! Micah comes to us from Thailand through Adam and Peter and we're so happy to have him. Yay!

Emily Eubanks - Snowmen

Emily says: "I wish I could build a snowman like this, but I've never seen snow before!"  That's Southern CA living for ya!  :)

Charles Eubanks - Snowmen

"Geronimoooooooo!!!!"

Trying a slightly different rendering style this time.  Normally, I leave my line work in the final piece.

Andy Eubanks - Snowmen

Here's Andy's description:

"In the first panel, the boy is building a snowman out of crumpled-up paper in the spring.  In the second panel, he's using baseballs during the summer.  In the third, he's using leaves in the fall.  Finally, in the last panel, he is really, really excited because it's winter and he gets to make a real snowman."

Micah Wood - Snowmen

Frosty discovered his friend caved into societal pressure about what's considered a "cool" skin tone.

Thanks for having me on here everyone, thanks Adam for the plug and Peter for the encouragement.
Don't know that I'll make it every week but I'll do my best. Also I'm very rusty at drawing, really haven't done much since high school. But hey, that's why I'm here!

Topic for 12/3 to 12/9

Zzzzzzzz.... Hubba-WHA?  Goodness, I overslept by a week!  I blame the turkey coma.  At any rate, I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving!

This week, let's tackle one of my favorite seasonal subjects:

SNOWMEN!!!

I know, right?  Can you believe we haven't done this topic already?  Have fun everyone, and stay frosty!  (badum-ching!)

Topic for 11/12 to 11/25

Guys, I think we could do Disney/Lucasfilm for a few more months if we could, but for the sake of variety, we best be shuffling off. But amazing job from all...hopefully those at the helm of Star Wars VII saw and were inspired! (How cute would Mike Wazowski be with Leia buns?)

In light of the upcoming holidays and the busy-ness that comes with it, we're doing another two week stretch on Anthdrawlogy but remember, if you'd like to do more than one drawing, it's loved, welcomed and encouraged. This fortnight's topic:

THANKSGIVING!

Not just the holiday but the actual event thereof...all is fair game. I'm thankful for all of you guys and for the fun and inspiration I've experienced over the last year and a half. Thank you from the bottom of my pilot pen!

Now...happy drawing!

Marie Criddle - Disney/Lucasfilm

Again, please pardon the quality! My daughter really wanted something "Tangled" and I figured since Flynn Rider and Han Solo are pretty much the same character...

Charles Eubanks - Disney/Lucasfilm

My all-time favorite Disney film, yet strangely, I've never before attempted to draw any of the characters.  I'm not sure whether I captured Wart's likeness here, but this was good practice nonetheless!

Andy Eubanks - Disney/Lucasfilm

Andy says: "Sully is looking at the lightsaber falling from the ceiling.  On his left is R2D2 showing a picture of Mike Wazowski.  R2D2 is holding out Darth Vader's lightsaber and trying to get Sully's attention.  Next to Sully is Darth Vader's mask, because when R2D2 was trying to get his lightsaber, Darth Vader's mask fell off.  And R2D2 is supposed to be in the shape of Mike Wazowski and his big eyeball."

Adam Heine - Disney/Lucasfilm

I love it when my friends discover they have things in common. Thanks to Disney, this could happen!

Topic for 10/29 to 11/12

Happy Halloween, everyone! It was a blast getting into the spirit with you all and it's sad to see our month of spookiness end so soon. But! There's always a good topic around the corner! Did you guys hear the news this week? Relevant to all consumers of entertainment everywhere: George Lucas sells his baby Lucasfilm to the Disney Corp for 4.5 billion dollars. And what's more? We're getting a new Star Wars movie in 2015. What do you guys think about it? I, for one, am cautiously optimistic...but I digress! Ready for our topical topic of the week? Let's throw our speculation hats into the ring and do the ultimate mash-up:

DISNEY/LUCASFILM!

Bonus if you can weave Marvel in there somewhere. :D Disney will rule us all one day.
Good luck, guys!

Marie Criddle - Haunted House

Mua ah ah ahh...you can tell I got a little tired of the tree. :)

Peter Hong - Haunted Houses

Dracula's old house, pre-Dark Knight days. Charles, we must've been using the same google images. I swear I had the layouts done before seeing your post. :O

Charles Eubanks - Haunted Houses

Gah.  I find structures difficult to draw.  Frightening, even!  For this one, I was inspired by the work of Bruce Bushman, and various images I found on Google.

Adam Heine - Haunted Houses

My creative energies have been going elsewhere lately, so I just kinda painted with no real plan. No real skill, either.

Topic for 10/22 to 10/28

Great pumpkins, guys!  You all have me craving pumpkin pie now.

Continuing with the Halloween theme, this week we visit...

HAUNTED HOUSES!!!

Ooh, I think I just scared myself!  (And not just because I dread drawing structures...)  Keep it spooky, everyone!

Jaqai Mickelsen - Pumpkins

I didn't have the time to go quite as far as I wanted to on this...but, some unexpected perspective challenges found in this bad boy.

Charles Eubanks - Pumpkins

I never know when to stop.  I'd keep going on this one, but Carolee wants to go visit the new Target store.  Priorities, people!  :)  (Actually, she says I'm starting to overthink it, and she has a point!)

Marie Criddle - Pumpkins

Only 5 more weeks until I get back to my scanner! Woo!

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Topic for 10/15 to 10/21

Great costumes, guys!  And by the way, thanks to Adam, I may never slide down a pole again!

Continuing the Halloween-y theme, this week we shall tackle...

PUMPKINS!!!

Well, not literally tackle them.  Unless you happen find yourself in an impromptu scrimmage at the local pumpkin patch.  In which case... you're on your own!

Have fun guys, and don't forget to wash your hands after you scoop the goop out of the brain cavity...

Marie Criddle - Costumes

I also hated those plastic Halloween masks. Nothing to breath out of!

Andy Eubanks - Costumes

Andy created this entire painting while I was in the other room working.  Honestly, I don't know where he gets all his artistic talent from.

Charles Eubanks - Costumes

Okay, I'm going to the vault again this week.  This is from almost exactly two years ago to the day.

I wanted to draw a self-portrait from the time I dressed up as Luke Skywalker for Halloween, and my parents FORCED me to (haha, "forced," accidental joke!)... ahem, FORCED me to wear a jacket over my costume, which COMPLETELY RUINED the effect.  People don't wear jackets on Tatooine, Mom!!!  Helloooo, TWO SUNS, PEOPLE!!!

So anyhoo, I didn't draw that because I'm clearly scarred for life.

jaqai Mickelsen - costumes

Ok.  Again, another quickie this week.  But, the moment "costumes" came up I couldn't help  but flash back on the time...in 7th grade, I decided that dressing up like Homie the Clown would be a good idea.  (Any In Living Color fans in the group?)  Yeah.  Turns out I'm a white guy from Utah.  And at the time, it also turned out I didn't have the money needed to actually buy a decent costume to clown it up legitimately.  I did borrow an oddly textured shirt from my dad, for what it's worth.

I guess what I'm trying to tell you is...In 7th grade, I went to school in black face.  But also, Homie the Clown was hilarious.

Adam Heine - Costumes

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how the Batpole is supposed to work.

Topic for 10/8 to 10/14

Beautiful horses, people! Shall I compare it to a stomach of hay? Neigh. It was way better. (Oh gosh, I'm up too late.) Ready for this week's topic? Prepare for a month of Halloween-y tricks and treats with...

COSTUMES!

Yes, it's time to brush up on those draping skills! Unless you're going for skin-tight costumes...or body paint...or big cardboard box frames. You know, brush up on whatever skills you'd like. Just dress it up! Good luck, Anthdrawlogians!

Emily Eubanks - Horses

...And here's Emily's contribution!  Being that this is her favorite subject, she really wanted to participate this week!

Marie Criddle - Horses

I'm still stateside sans scanner, so I had to take a picture of my sketchbook and retouch them in (gulp) Preview. And bonus points to whoever can recognize what the second one is! My favorite horsie of all. Uh...I mean horse. I am not a 12 year old girl, I swear.

Charles Eubanks - Horses

I'll admit it, this week's topic was my daughter's suggestion.  Ever since seeing Brave, she's been rather obsessed with horses.

Jaqai Mickelsen - Horses

"Why the long face?"  Yeah, you can tell I'm super engaged at work these days. :)

Topic for 10/1 - 10/7

Yikes, when did Wednesday happen?  Sorry folks, I'm asleep at the wheel!

This week, I have a topic and a question for you all.  First, the topic:

HORSES!!!!

Giddy-up, y'all!

And now for the question:  how would everyone feel about entering the Tomie dePaola SCBWI contest?  I don't know how many of you are SCBWI members, so this really wouldn't make sense if I'm the only one.  But I was thinking that if everyone is on board with this idea, we could use Anthdrawlogy as a sort of virtual crit group for a few weeks.

Or, if you guys would rather stick with the normal weekly theme thing, that's okay too!

Let me know what you think in the comments...

Marie Criddle - Past Topic

I'm still out and about traveling through the States, so I'm posting a little something I finished just before I left Japan. Come on, you guys knew I would do unicorns again.

Also, a few hours before we left, my daughter found the paint pens I had hidden away and scribbled all over the surfboard...trying to help, I suppose. So I think I've got a little more "cleaning up" to do on this when I get home. :D Yay for artistic kiddos!

Charles Eubanks - Past Topic

I still like Andy's post for this topic WAY better than mine.  But because this is the only topic I didn't attempt myself, the completist in me insists I post this.

I don't normally title my art, but I'd call this one "umbilical."  I simultaneously dedicate it to the astronauts of the Gemini program, and to my wife and kids.

Whelp.  I love me some Muppets.  And, Mr. Jim Henson recently had a birthday. :)

Adam Heine - Past Topic (Board Games)

I know I said I was gonna redo one of my crap topics, but I really like board games. Guess what I've been playing a lot lately.

Just so you know how big a geek I am, I drew a diagram in the corner to make sure this was a legal checkmate.

And just so you know the kinds of geeks I'm raising, I wasn't planning on drawing all four characters until my 5-year-old son looked at the diagram, looked at the drawing, and said, "Where's the bishop?"

Now you know the truth.
