So in what little I know of Norse mythology, the Father-God Odin has this amazing eight legged steed named Sleipnir (who, in one incarnation, had four heads but, come on. That's just nutty.) I also remember reading that Odin and Sleipnir were among many of the inspirations that eventually made up the current image of Santa Claus and his reindeer (the eight legs being translated, I suppose, into eight separate reindeer?) A stretch, maybe. :)

Anyways, let's all join in singing that classic Christmas song: "Sleipnir, the eight legged reindeer (reindeer), had a very awesome name (can't pronounce it!)..."

I know, we're really testing the warm climate dwellers here in regards to childhood/real life inspiration. But isn't that what google images is for? Good luck with the ungulates!
