Charles Eubanks - Harry Potter

I realized after it was too late that I totally stole Andy's composition!  Gah!  Sorry, Andy!

Anyway, this was all done digitally, but I started with the pencil sketch below to figure out the character.  I started reading the books before the movies came out, and always pictured Harry's scar being more pronounced, like his head was practically split open.  I imagined it like a crack, growing larger and disappearing below the hair line.  I think my pencil drawing does the better job capturing what I was after.

You know, I always thought the same things with Harry's scar...the one in the movie just didn't do it justice.

I love both of these! The pencil sketch is full of energy (such awesome hair) and Hedwig is just so pretty and clean. I can't wait to start reading the books to my kiddo, too!

Great background too, by the way...is it a found texture or did you make it yourself? Really well done.

Thanks, Marie! The bg texture was done by hand. I started by creating a lighting effect to get a nice gradient, then used a texture brush and went sample-splatter-sample-splatter awhile until it looked all texture-ey.

Awesome, I love it. I'm going to have to try that out!

yeah, the paint blotch background is really nice. Makes it feel tangible.

let's call it a revamp! and a great one, at that! love the way you're able to convey so much liveliness using such simple strokes (except the amazing coloring, esp. the hair), charles!
