Marie Criddle - Droids

Pardon the coloring, I actually drew this on packing paper.

Adam Heine - Droids, Tentacles, Snacks

Since this is my first Anthdrawlogy post in 4 months, I figured I'd tackle a few topics at once.

Inspired by the world of the game I'm working on that's been taking up all my time. Actually, when I put it like that, I suppose it would be, wouldn't it.

Peter Hong - Droids

I tried to draw the straight lines freehand. Bleh. Then, the pencil gradient wouldn't show up, so I had to use the trackpad to make Photoshop gradient shapes. Boo. Oh, well. It was fun to draw, besides those things...

Topic for 6/28 - 7/8

First off, let's all give a warm welcome to our newest member, Robin Ford!  She's already off to a great start with her dog/cat/mouse/cheese drawing for last week's topic.  (I myself am a cheeseivore, so I can relate!)

Let's get back to pop culture this week's topic!

DROIDS!!!

Don't forget to carefully inspect that R2 unit before you sign the lease!

Robin Ford- Snacks

Hi everybody!
By way of introduction, I'm Robin and I'm new; new to Anthdrawlogy and fairly new to drawing, too. I took a drawing class last semester and it turns out I don't suck half as bad as I thought I did. So the wonderful folks here at Anthdrawlogy have agreed to let me in on all this fun. I'm excited about it. I hope you enjoy my modest scribbles.

Marie Criddle - Snacks

Savin got her first present of a "seaweed snack" from a friend at school. She tried it, but was not convinced it was an actual snack.

Jaqai Mickelsen - Snacks

I've been doing a lil' life drawing at a local studio lately, but this was a bit overzealous. Got close in a few spots, not so much in others.

Topic for 6/3 to 6/16

Hi, everybody!

This is Marie...super long time no draw, right? Well, I'm finally settled down again in Japan and life is happy and good and VERY full with one extra being in it. Yay for new kids, amirite? But being inspired by the awesome stuff posted while I've been away, I'm ready to get back on the horse with you all. Charles let me pick the topic this week and it's rather indulgent. How about....

SNACKS!

Who doesn't love snacks? I love snacks. I want a snack. Be right back.
Good luck!

Charles Eubanks - Tentacles

Hey, did I mention I illustrated a picture book?  It's available on Amazon and B&N, and I even have an Amazon Author Page!  (I feel so official!)  I've been having such a blast inscribing book for people.  This one's going up for auction at my kids' elementary school.  (That's a Knob Hill Hawks pennant he's holding.)

Jaqai Mickelsen - Tentacles

Yeah, so the adding of colors got a lil' unwieldy. But here it is. Inspired by an old school Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

Peter Hong - Tentacles

Dr. Octopus takes to heart advice given to him by a certain arachnoid hero that "crime doesn't pay," and uses his skills to become a DJ with unmatched surround sound technology!

Topic for 5/8 - 5/19

Amazing doctors, everyone!  (Where do these supervillains get their doctorates, anyway?  That's what I'd like to know!)

This week's topic has all sorts of icky-fun possibilities:

TENTACLES!!!

Have fun, and steer clear of the deep, dark water!

Charles Eubanks - Doctor Who

This is my attempt to capture Matt Smith's amazing physical comedy.  I love how he has a way of looking like he's moving in more than one direction at once, leaving everyone befuddled by his zany exuberance.

Carolee Eubanks - Doctor Who

That's the 11th Doctor (played by Matt Smith), with his companion Amy Pond.  Carolee sculpted these miniatures out of Sculpey.  Aren't they totes adorbs?

Peter Hong - Doctor Who

In keeping w/non-Doctor Who doctors...If you don't know who this is, maybe I need more visual cues, like this:
I'm enjoying as much of this stuff as I can while in the States. :)

Jaqai Mickelsen - Doctor Who

Ok, yeah. So...again...it's been a while. But I've had this lil' bobblehead around forever, and I realized, "wait a minute! He's a Doctor!"

It's been a while (shocking, I know) since I've drawn something by referencing it in actual 3D space, so it was fun to dust off those observation muscles. I give myself a B+ given how long it's been.

Brian Y.A. Lee - Doctor Who!!!

Doctor Who!!!?  Doctor Doom. Hard choice between Doom and Dr. Wily from Mega Man, but I think Doom is more evil?  Got little lazy with hood and cape.

Topic for 4/16 - 4/28

Holy whoops!  Has it really been a month since we've had a new topic?  Allow me to rectify that!  This time around, let's tackle another pop culture icon:

DOCTOR WHO!!!

Who was your first doctor?  Who (or what) is your favorite villain?  Do you secretly wish you were his companion?  What time and place would you visit?

As always, have fun!

Charles Eubanks - Furniture

I just love the design sensibility in Disney films.  You can tell they think through all their artistic choices carefully, adhering to well-defined shape language and color palettes.

This chair is from The Sword in the Stone, from the scene where The Wart and Merlin first meet.  I reproduced it as faithfully as I was able, paying close attention to the design nuances.  I like how the back mirrors the shape of a castle tower, and also hints at the direction from which Wart will make his sudden entrance.

In other news... I can't draw a straight line worth a darn.  So this exercise was really good for me!

Topic for 3/12 - 3/17

Heya, folks!  Is it just me, or did that last topic put you in the mood for cake?  Great Portal drawings, everyone!  I think Aperture has some great new R&D ideas to run with.

Let's try something a little more down-to-earth for next week's topic...

FURNITURE!!!

Yes, furniture!  Boring, you say?  Then try some visual research for inspiration!  Look at historical furniture, or film, or comics, or even just the room around you!  This can be a fun challenge, taking something ordinary and making it look artistic.  And as always... have fun!

Peter Hong - Portal

I looked up 3D drawing, and it looked really complicated. Something about taking two photos about four inches apart, then matching them up after changing the image modes in Photoshop. Also, you would need a pair of 3D glasses to appreciate it. So, this is about as 3D as I could get. And...shameless toilet humor, at that. :P

Adam Heine - Portal

The Aperture Science Snowboard Team

Though my wife made an excellent point: "What if the hot air balloon drifts a little?"

Oh well.

Brian Y.A. Lee - Portal

Hi. First time drawer here and I don't have Photoshop or anything fancy to edit out unwanted things, so bear with me. It's just me and my best pal called "mechanical pencil."

I heard about this game, but never played it before, hence I saw bunch of images of Chell from Google and drew an image coming out from portal weary and tired.

Marie Criddle - Portal

My colors didn't scan very well here, but c'est la cake.

I just have to pass this on to you guys, though. I've been working on more dynamic poses and I LOVE practicing with models from this gallery I found: http://senshistock.deviantart.com/gallery/ I used one of her poses for Chell here.

You'll have to sign into deviantart to see them (and be over 18), considering it is about a million pictures of men and women in their briefs. For art!

Topic for 2/28 to 3/10

Hi, long lost Anthdrawlogians! So we've been a little swamped on our topic-posting side and despite our best efforts, have slacked off on posting current topics. But fret not! It's back to business time and we won't let Anthdrawlogy fall by the wayside. It's been too fun for me, personally, to let it slide much longer, and I love having something keep me coming back to the drawing board at LEAST once a week. So! That said, let's get on track, shall we? This one might be a little hard for those that are a little behind in our gaming, but let's try:

PORTAL!

And yes, we mean the video game! However, if you have no experience with the game, feel free to try your hand at any interpretation the word might conjure up for you. Either way, I'll consider it a triumph. I'll make a note here: huge success.

(We'll go to March 10th on this one, then start the week after posting on Mondays again. Woo!)

Oh! Also give a huge welcome to new Anthdrawlogian, Brian Lee!! Can't wait to see your stuff, Brian!

Marie Criddle - Valentine's Day

Okay, so Valentine's Day is long past but this little fishy has finally won over his mergirl's wet heart, so a-posting I must go. NEW TOPIC IS COMING MOMENTARILY!

Sunday, February 10, 2013

Topic for 2/11 - 2/17

Heya, folks!  I hope you'll pardon the momentary radio silence.  No, zombies did not chew through the wires here at Anthdrawlogy; We just got a little sidetracked.  But now we're back, with a topic you'll all LOVE...

VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!

Have fun everyone, and be sure to draw from the heart!

Charles Eubanks - Zombies

This guy's in the advanced stages of zombie-ism, so he needs to start his day with an extra-fortified breakfast.

Adam Heine - Zombies

I didn't draw anything new (no time! NO TIME!), but here's a very old sketch I found from five years ago. It was meant to be used as placeholder art in a game a friend of mine was making. It was one of my very few attempts at digital coloring.

Marie Criddle - Zombies

This is not to say that I want to turn my dog into a zombie, but rather he's turning ME into a zombie with his night barks. Two in the morning is not fetch time! No! BAD DOG.

Peter Hong - Zombies

What's in your he-ad? In your he-eead? Zo-om-bay, zo-om-bay, zo-om-bay-uh? Ay-uh? Ay-uh? Ay-uh? O-o? O-o? O-o? O-o? O-o? O-o? O-o? O-ooo...dah dah...

Charles Eubanks - Year In Review #2

I'm super excited to finally be sharing this with you guys!  This is the cover image from my new picture book, a monster-themed alphabet book about medical terms.  Coming to a bookstore near you in early 2013!

Peter Hong - Year in Review #2

This li'l dude represents the biggest change in 2012 for us. He is my son, Lance, born on Superbowl Sunday (February 5th, 2012). He is a handful (two armfuls, actually), and we love him, even if he decides not to be a korean ninja when he grows up! ;)

Marie Criddle - Year in Review #2

I post this one not because it's my best work, but it best represents my 2012. GUYS! I had SO MUCH FUN. The whole 365 days of drawing project was at times frustrating but it was so much fun to look back on and see what I could do. It was fun to try new mediums and techniques, to spend anywhere from 10 minutes to endless hours on a drawing and to test out subjects I had never done before (i.e. gorillataurs. Raar.)

It was a blast and I look forward to the next year. Without all the stress of the 365 thing, but with some of the fun nonetheless. Gorillataur OUT.

Adam Heine - Year in Review #2

I looked and looked, but apparently I haven't drawn anything outside of Anthdrawlogy (which, really, was the whole point of me joining in the first place).

I had a hard time picking a favorite. I probably put the most time into the chess board, though the space marine was where I really started taking basic shading seriously. Then again, the Avenger pigeons (drawn while my 10-year-old was in the hospital) always makes me smile. So does my apologetic AT-AT.

But I think my favorite piece this year was the fan art I drew for Scott Westerfeld:

I mean, come on, I got to draw a kraken. (The fact that Scott later tweeted and blogged my fan art was pretty cool too).

Topic for 1/1 to 1/7

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We wanted to start on a fresh slate this week (and get back to posting a new topic at the beginning of the week again!) and decided to let Santa simmer for a bit. But now we're back and redoing a favorite from last year, the much beloved:

YEAR IN REVIEW #2!

Post something you've done this year that you LOVE, your favorite piece. It doesn't necessarily have to be something you've done for Anthdrawlogy, just something you want to share that represents you and your work this year. Our last year, we did stuff like this...so go nuts!

Thanks for another amazing year...you guys make this a happy place to be. :)
